Zamalek forward Mostafa Shalaby has been called up to the Egypt national team squad to replace Hussein El-Shahat.

Egypt are set to take part in the Winsunited Cup in the upcoming international break as the tournament will feature Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand.

The Pharaohs have already named their 25-man squad for the March camp and initially included Al Ahly’s in-form winger Hussein El-Shahat.

However, the 31-year-old recently sustained an injury and has been left out of the national team squad as a result.

Just hours later, head coach Hossam Hassan decided to call up Mostafa Shalaby as an immediate replacement to fill in for El-Shahat.

The last time Shalaby made the first-team squad was back in June of 2022 under former manager Ehab Galal, where he remained on the bench in a 4-1 friendly defeat to South Korea.

The Winsunited Cup will begin this Friday, March 22nd when Egypt take on New Zealand in the opening game.
