Patrice Motsepe discussed the growing partnership between CAF and the Riyadh Season, as well as his commitment to increase prize money for clubs.
In an interview with MBC Masr 2, Motsepe said: “Several announcements will be made soon. We are working closely with the head of the Saudi Entertainment Organization, Turki Al-Sheikh, and this partnership will benefit both CAF and Riyadh Season.”
Motsepe also expressed his admiration for Egyptian football, adding: “I have a deep love for both Al Ahly and Zamalek. We all used to cheer for Abou Trika, and Egyptian football makes me proud. Egypt must be among the countries competing in the World Cup.”
Touching on the challenges facing African football, he said: “The main issue is financing. Our hope is that African leagues can one day compete at the same level as European leagues. We are incredibly proud of Morocco’s achievements at the 2022 World Cup.”
Motsepe also expressed gratitude for FIFA’s support, stating: “I remain optimistic about the future of African football because our stadiums are always filled with passionate fans. However, clubs must become financially self-sustaining.”
He concluded by highlighting recent efforts to boost prize money: “Every club that participated in the African Super League received $1 million just for participating, and we are working to increase that amount. Raising prize money will help combat corruption and bribery in African football.”
