Nice reach full agreement to sign Al Ahly's Mohamed Abdelmonem

French club OGC Nice have all agreements in place to sign Al Ahly and Egypt defender Mohamed Abdelmonem.

According to French media, the deal will cost Nice €4 million plus an additional €1 million in bonus after both teams found a middle ground on payment terms. The fee will be paid on two installments, with a 10% future sell-on fee to be added as well.

Abdelmonem has also agreed terms to sign a four-year contract with Nice that will run until June 2028 and is expected to France in the next days after his visa process is finalized.

This puts to bed one of the longest-running sagas in the Egyptian transfer market for this summer transfer window after Nice had submitted multiple offers to sign Abdelmonem.

Mohamed Abdelmonem is expected to replace Jean Clair Todibo, who departed just a few days ago to West Ham on loan with an obligation to buy.

Nice finished last season fifth in Ligue 1 and secured Europa League football for next season and will be hoping to strengthen their squad, having also lost Khéphren Thuram to Juventus earlier this summer.

If the deal is completed, Abdelmonem will become the club’s fourth summer signing after deals for Jonathan Clauss, Morgan Sanson, and Tanguy Ndombélé.

In Nice, Abdelmonem is expected to partner Brazilian veteran defender Dante and youngster Antoine Mendy as French manager Franck Haise opts for a three-man backline.

The 25-year-old international has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Egypt and Africa, guiding the Reds to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles.

Al Ahly now will be on the lookout for a center back to strengthen their backline, with head coach Marcel Koller reportedly only keen on signing a foreign name to fill in the void left by Abdelmonem.

The Reds also have Rami Rabia, Yasser Ibrahim, and new Qatari defender Youssef Ayman, but surely they will look for a new name to join the list.
