OFFICIAL: Al Ahly extend Amr El-Sulya contract

Amr El-Sulya has renewed his contract with Al Ahly for one further season to continue what is already a decorated career with the Red Devils.

The 34-year-old’s contract was set to expire by the end of the current season and has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia and Libya this summer.

The one-year renewal guarantees his stay in Cairo for at least one extra season and fends interest from Libyan club Asswehely who expressed their interest to sign El-Sulya as a free agent.

Having joined Al Ahly in 2016, El-Sulya has won everything that is there to win with the Reds, including Six Egyptian Premier League titles, four Egyptian Cups, four Egyptian Super Cups, two CAF Super Cups, and four CAF Champions Leagues.

El-Sulya also managed to achieve a historic feat of scoring in three different CAF Champions League finals as well as winning three bronze Club World Cup medals in 2020, 2021, and 2023.

Overall, El-Sulya has made over 300 appearances for the African champions and has 50 international caps to his name, being part of the squad that lost the 2021 AFCON final.

Ahead of his time at Al Ahly, El-Sulya started his career at Ismaily, before leaving for Emirati side Al-Shaab in 2015; however, just six months later he joined the Reds on a free transfer.

El-Sulya’s renewal helps Al Ahly keep the core of their midfield intact, letting the club use their foreign players’ quota to strengthen in defense in light of Mohamed Abdelmonein’s expected departure to Nice.
