The Senegalese Football Federation has decided not to renew the contract of manager Aliou Cisse, which expired at the end of August.
A national football icon, Aliou Cisse had been in charge of the team since 2015. During his time as manager, Cisse led Senegal to two World Cup appearances and reached the AFCON final twice.
In 2019, Senegal lost the AFCON final to Algeria, but they triumphed over Egypt in 2021, winning the tournament on penalties.
Cisse also guided Senegal to the Round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated by England following a 3-0 loss. His departure ends one of the longest tenures for a manager in the history of Senegal’s national team.
Senegal is currently second in their World Cup qualifying group, trailing Sudan by two points. They also have four points from two matches in the AFCON qualifiers, with back-to-back fixtures against Malawi up next.
