Egypt international Omar Fayed has completed a season-long loan move to Belgian club Beerschot VA from Fenerbahce.
The 21-year-old centre-back joined Fenerbahçe last summer for a fee of €550,000 from Arab Contractors but is yet to make an appearance for the club that is currently coached by José Mourinho.
Fayed spent last season out on loan at Serbian side Novi Pazar for whom he made 21 appearances to help them survive relegation and reach the quarter-finals of the Serbian Cup.
Despite his impressive performances in Serbia, Fayed knew it would be difficult to break into José Mourinho’s side and therefore was loaned out once again.
Beerschot ply their trade in the Belgian Pro League and are coached by Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt.
The team is enduring a tough start to the season, collecting just one point from their opening six league games and conceding 14 times, and will hope Fayed is the solution to their leaky defence.
Saudi internationals Faisal Al-Ghamdi and Marwan Al-Sahaf have also joined Beerschot on loan from Ittihad Jeddah just earlier this week.
Fayed played a crucial role in guiding Egypt to the fourth spot in the latest Paris Olympics, with the Pharaohs not conceding a single goal while he was on the pitch until France’s late equaliser in the semi-finals.
Following Fayed’s red card against the French team, the Egyptians ended up conceding eight goals, two to France, and six to Morocco.
For these performances, Fayed was one of three Egyptians included in Sofascore’s Team of the Tournament, alongside goalkeeper Hamza Alaa and the team’s top scorer Ibrahim Adel.
Fayed was also linked with a move to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers by the Turkish media over the summer.
Beerschot wist nog 2 spelers aan te trekken op de laatste dag van de transferperiode.
