El-Wensh Zamalek

Zamalek defender Mahmoud Hamdi El-Wensh has signed a new three-year contract, putting an end to speculation about his future.

The White Knights announced the renewal on Friday, confirming that the 29-year-old center-back whose contract was set to expire at the end of the current season, will now complete what will be a 12-year tenure with the club by the end of his new deal.

El-Wensh joined Zamalek from Tala’ea El-Gaish in 2016 and has since made 235 appearances across all competitions. Over nine seasons, he has contributed 14 goals and played a vital role in securing 11 titles for the White Knights, seven domestic and four continental.

This season, El-Wensh made a strong return to action following a cruciate ligament tear suffered in February 2024, which followed a previous partial tear of the same ligament. Since his comeback, he has featured in 21 matches and scored once.

Among the trophies he’s helped secure are two Egyptian Premier League titles, two CAF Confederation Cups, two CAF Super Cups, three Egypt Cups, and two Egyptian Super Cups, establishing himself as a cornerstone of Zamalek’s recent success.

Following the club’s bitter fallout with Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Zamalek were quick on their feet to reaffirm their faith in one of their most decorated players as they look to build toward a more stable future.
