Espérance Sportive de Tunis has announced the departure of Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso after less than a year in charge.

In an official statement, the Tunisian club said: “Espérance Sportive de Tunis announces the departure of Miguel Cardoso and his staff by mutual consent.

“A new manager will be appointed in due course. In the meantime, Iskandar El Kasry will lead the team on an interim basis.”

Cardoso, who took over in January 2024, led Espérance to the CAF Champions League final, where they lost 1-0 on aggregate to Al Ahly. He also secured the Tunisian league title last season.

Despite these successes, Espérance has had a slow start to this season, with two wins and two draws in the league. In total, Cardoso managed 25 games, winning 15, drawing seven, and losing just three.

Espérance has been drawn into Group D of the CAF Champions League, where they will face Egypt’s Pyramids FC, Angola’s Sagrada Esperança, and Mali’s Djoliba.
