Ghazl El-Mahalla have become the second team to be promoted to the Egyptian Premier League next season after securing second place in the Egyptian Second Division A.
Petrojet had finished top of the second tier of Egyptian football and sealed their promotion with three games to go, leaving several teams to fight for the second automatic promotion spot.
It was Ghazl El-Mahalla and Haras El-Hodood who kept fighting to go up alongside Petrojet, but it was the 1973 Egyptian champions who eventually secured the job.
The promotion was sealed on the final matchday as El-Mahalla defeated Proxy 3-1 for the Boss of the Peasants to return back to the top tier at the first time of asking.
Ghazl El-Mahalla were relegated to the second division after finishing 17th last season alongside Aswan and Haras El-Hoddod.
El-Hodood, two-time Egypt Cup champions, will now take part in the promotion playoffs alongside three teams, yet to be determined, from the Egyptian Second Division B.
Coached by former Zamalek and Egypt midfielder Ahmed Eid Abdelmalek, El-Mahalla will play their 50th season in the Premier League next year, where they could also face arch-rivals Baladiyet El-Mahalla.
If Baladiyet El-Mahalla manages to stay up, it will mark the first time since the 2007/08 season that both El-Mahalla giants compete together in the top tier.
