Former Al Ahly defender Mahmoud Metwally has officially joined Ittihad of Alexandria as a free agent.
Metwally already reached an agreement with Al Ahly to mutually terminate his contract earlier this summer, allowing him to join Ittihad on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old joined Al Ahly in 2019 from Ismaily as one of the best defenders in Egypt, but injuries hampered his career in Cairo and he failed to live up to his potential.
Last season, Metwally made only five appearances for the Reds, scoring once in a league victory over El-Gouna and featured in the CAF Champions League, playing the two semi-final legs against TP Mazembe and was an unused substitute in the final against Esperance.
Overall, Metwally featured 59 times for Al Ahly, scoring twice, and winning 11 trophies, including three CAF Champions Leagues, two league titles, three Egypt Cups, and three Egypt Super Cups.
His experience will surely help Ittihad Alexandria to break into the top four of the Egyptian League. They already announced Cypriot manager Nikodimos Papavasiliou as their new manager.
