OFFICIAL: Papavasiliou takes charge of Ittihad of Alexandria

Ittihad of Alexandria have announced the hiring of Cypriot manager Nikodimos Papavasiliou as their new manager.

Papavasiliou replaces Tarek El-Ashry, who resigned from his role last June after leading the club in 32 games, of which he won 12 and lost 11.

On the other hand, Papavasiliou has been jobless since departing Bank Al Ahly last October and will now add Ittihad to the long list of clubs in his CV.

The 53-year-old has led Wadi Degla and Ghazl El-Mahalla, before his time at Bank Al Ahly, while also taking charge of several clubs in Cyprus and Greece, most notably Panionios, Nea Salamina, Apollon Limassol, and OFI Crete.

He also had a stint at Slovak giants Slovan Bratislava during the 2015/16 season, which included three games in the Europa League.

Despite a flying start to the season, Ittihad of Alexandria finished last season in 11th place and were knocked out of the Egypt Cup in the first round by minnows Asmadat Abou Kheir.
