Mohamed Salah has officially signed a two-year contract extension with Liverpool, committing his future to the club until 2027.

The agreement was confirmed Friday morning after months of negotiations between Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, and Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes.

Despite a lengthy process and months of media chatter and rumors, Liverpool were always optimistic about retaining their 32-year-old star.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Salah said, “Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football. It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.”

Contrary to some reports, Salah did not take a pay cut and remains one of the Premier League’s top earners, second only to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

The Egyptian’s new deal keeps him on the same salary terms as his current contract, believed to be close to £400,000 per week, though Ramy Abbas previously revealed that Salah’s total weekly earnings, including endorsements and image rights, amount to at least £1 million.

Since joining from Roma in 2017, Salah has become one of Liverpool’s all-time greats. This season alone, he has contributed 54 goals in all competitions, 32 goals and 22 assists, as Liverpool continue their push for a second Premier League title under Arne Slot.

The Liverpool boss chimed in following the contract extention, praising Mohamed Salah for his professionalism and longevity on the field.

“It’s never easy to stay at this level. But if you look at how he takes care of his body and mind, that gives him a great chance to stay elite longer than most. We’re confident he’ll produce another two years like the last seven or eight. And with the strong team we’re building, it helps massively to have someone who can make the difference,” said Slot.

The Ducthman also credited the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes for helping secure the deal, “Mo could have gone anywhere. It’s a big compliment to Richard. If I were a player we’re trying to sign, it would be very reassuring to know Salah is staying.”

Salah’s renewal is a major boost to Liverpool’s project under Slot, especially as the club inches closer to clinching the Premier League title this season.
