Bristol City have completed the signing of midfielder Sam Morsy on a six-month contract, the Championship club confirmed on Friday.
Sam Morsy returns to English football after a brief spell in Kuwait. The midfielder arrives less than a season after his departure from Ipswich Town.
The Egypt international is best known in recent years for his role at Ipswich, where he captained the side through consecutive promotions and remained a key figure during their 2024 Premier League season, making 33 top-flight appearances.
His career in England began at Port Vale in 2009, followed by spells at Chesterfield, Wigan Athletic, and Middlesbrough. At Wigan, he was part of two promotion-winning teams and was named the club’s Player of the Year for the 2019/20 season.
Morsy joined Ipswich in 2021 and went on to make 165 appearances before leaving Portman Road to join Kuwait SC.
Following the official announcement, Morsy said, “I am delighted to be here. As soon as I heard of the interest, I could see it was a really good fit for me.”
Morsy added, “I am going to give it everything I have got, and I am fully committed to this cause. I am joining an amazing football club and an amazing group.”
Furthermore, Bristol City’s technical director, Brian Tinnion, spoke highly of the Egyptian. “We know what an experienced player Sam is. To have his quality on the pitch and his leadership in the dressing room is really exciting for us.
Having trained with the club in recent weeks, Sam Morsy is expected to be available for selection against Preston North End in the next Bristol City Championship fixture.
