Ferrera, 44, arrived in Cairo to finalise the agreement and begin preparations for the upcoming Egyptian Premier League season, which kicks off on 8 August. The move marks a significant step in Zamalek’s bid to stabilise the technical bench ahead of a crucial campaign both domestically and continentally.

The Belgian tactician brings with him experience across Europe and the Middle East. His managerial resume includes stints at Standard Liège and Sint-Truidense in Belgium, where he notably guided the latter to top-flight promotion by winning the Second Division title in 2014. The following season, he lifted the Belgian Cup with Standard Liège, further cementing his reputation as one of Belgium’s promising coaches at the time.
Most recently, he managed Al-Fateh and Al-Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, and Belgian side Daring Brussels, previously known as RWD Molenbeek.
Zamalek have been in search of a long-term solution since parting ways with Portuguese coach Jose Gomes last season. Since Gomes’ departure, the White Knights have went through three different coaches in the second half of the season.
Christian Gross and Jose Peseiro couldn’t deliver the desired results for the Cairo giants, which prompted the club to appoint Ayman El-Ramadi temporarily.
Despite the turbulence, interim boss Ayman El-Ramadi managed to guide the team to Egypt Cup glory, though the club fell short in the league, finishing in third place.
With CAF Confederation Cup football awaiting them and an upcoming domestic season on the horizon, Zamalek will hope Yannick Ferrera can provide consistency and performances for the club.
The Egyptian Premier League begins on 8 August, giving Ferrera just over a month to shape his squad.
