Omar Marmoush

Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush is set to remain sidelined for a few weeks after picking up a knee injury while on international duty.

The 26-year-old was forced off early into Egypt’s 0-0 World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso on Tuesday and has since been ruled out of Sunday’s Manchester derby.

At his pre-match press conference, Pep Guardiola confirmed the striker faces further tests but expressed optimism about his recovery.

“Omar is injured from Egypt,” Guardiola said. “He has to undergo the last tests. He will be out for a few weeks, I think, before the next international break he will be ready.”

In addition to Omar Marmoush, Manchester City are also sweating over the fitness of Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, and John Stones ahead of their clash with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. The club have not had the best start to the season so far, currently sitting 13th in the Premier League after three games,

Until further notice, Marmoush’s availability for Egypt’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers early next month remains uncertain.
