Omar Marmoush

Manchester City have confirmed that Omar Marmoush will miss the upcoming Manchester derby against after sustaining a knee ligament injury.

Omar Marmoush limped off early in Egypt’s goalless draw with Burkina Faso during Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier.

He was replaced within less than 10 minutes of the start of the game by Osama Faisal, with team doctor Mohamed Abou Elela later revealing the player suffered from ligament damage.

The Egyptian FA added that Omar Marmoush underwent scans in Cairo before returning to Manchester for further assessment.

“Initial results indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday. He will now begin his rehabilitation,” Manchester City said in an official statement, without disclosing a recovery timeline.

Omar Marmoush has played in all three matches for the Sky Blues since the start of the new Premier League season, registering one assist for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The last time the Egyptian forward found the back of the net was late last season against Bournemouth, scoring a screamer that earned him the prestigious Premier League Goal of the Season award.

The 26-year-old’s absence is a major blow as City look to recover from a stuttering start to the season, sitting 13th in the Premier League with three points from three games. Manchester United, meanwhile, are ninth with four points.
