Egyptian youngster Omar Sayed Moawad has revealed on Instagram that he has suffered an ACL tear for the second time, just weeks before his anticipated move to Spanish club Real Betis.

On his Instagram account, Omar shared, “Thank God for this difficult situation. I have dealt with this before—an ACL tear—and my experience will help me manage it better and recover faster this time.”

Omar, the son of Egyptian football legend Sayed Moawad, had officially signed a deal to join Real Betis in January of next year from Al Ahly.

The 18-year-old caught the attention of the Spanish club during a trial period from July 14 to August 11, 2023, while training with the Real Betis (B) team. His performances impressed the coaching staff, leading to a formal bid from Betis to Al Ahly in September 2023.

However, Omar suffered his first ACL tear shortly after the trial, putting the transfer on hold. Despite the setback, Real Betis remained committed to signing the versatile young forward, who can play as a right winger, left winger, False Nine, or even a playmaker.

Omar is poised to become only the second Egyptian to join Real Betis after Amro Tarek and the third Egyptian to play in La Liga, following Mido’s stint with Celta Vigo.

With the announcement of a second ACL tear, Omar’s recovery will be critical in determining his future in Spain. Despite the challenges, the young player’s determination and experience in overcoming similar adversity could pave the way for a successful return to the pitch.
