Percy Tau excluded from South Africa’s AFCON qualifiers squad

Belgian manager Hugo Broos has left Al Ahly winger Percy Tau out of South Africa’s squad for the upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers in October.

The Bafana Bafana coach finalized his 23-man squad to face Congo Brazzaville in the upcoming international break taking place in October.

In a media statement, Broos explained that Tau was omitted due to personal circumstances, adding that it was up to the player to share details if he felt comfortable.

Tau, who was also excluded from South Africa’s September matches against Uganda and South Sudan, will miss both legs against Congo Brazzaville on the 11th and 15th of October.

South Africa currently sits with four points from their first two games in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers. Two wins in their upcoming matches will likely secure their place in the tournament.
