Report: Egypt to be invited to 2025 Gold Cup

The Egyptian national team is reportedly set to be one of the non-CONCACAF teams to be invited to the 2025 Gold Cup.

The 2025 Gold Cup is supposed to take place sometime in June or July 2025, with CONCACAF aiming to increase the number of teams from 16 to 24, according to a report by Bolvip.

The report added that CONCACAF wants to treat the tournament as a mini-World Cup to give Mexico, the United States, and Canada, the hosts of the 2026 World Cup, the best possible preparation.

If the news becomes true, the 2025 edition of the Gold Cup would include 16 teams from CONCACAF, two teams from CONMEBOL, two teams from UEFA, two teams from Africa, and two teams from Asia.

The tournament is supposed to take place sometime in June or July 2025, with Egypt as one of the African teams that could be invited by the CONCACAF, as per the report.

Some other teams that could be invited are Colombia and Uruguay from South America, Japan and South Korea from Asia, Senegal from Africa, and Spain and France from Europe.

It won’t be the first time non-CONCACAF teams participate in the Gold Cup, with Brazil, South Korea, Ecuador, and Qatar having all taken part in the competition before, with the latter playing the last two editions of the tournament.

The only African country to have participated in the Gold Cup is South Africa when they reached the quarter-finals of the 2005 edition, before losing to Panama on penalties.
