Zamalek opened preliminary talks with Ghanaian left-back Issahaku Yakubu to gauge his interest in joining the club as a free agent.
Yakubu, 30, has been plying his trade in Egypt since January 2019, first arriving through Wadi Degla, before moving to Bank Al Ahly in the summer of 2021.
He established himself as one of the best full-backs in Egypt, making 100 appearances for Bank Al Ahly, scoring twice and assisting 15 times, and now is looking for a new club as his contract is set to expire by the end of the current season.
Cairo giants Zamalek is said to be interested in the Ghanaian as their head coach José Gomes is keen on reinforcing his side’s defense, especially with the consistent injuries of Ahmed Fetouh and in light of Mohamed Abdelshafy’s impending retirement.
The deal will also be financially beneficial for the club as they won’t need to pay any transfer fee to acquire the services of the player.
Modern Future’s Joseph Ngwem is another left-back option Zamalek might consider as well as ENPPI’s Mohamed Hamdi, but the latter might be costly for the club.
