Rio Ferdinand has chosen Mohamed Salah as his Premier League Player of the Season at the halfway mark, highlighting his exceptional numbers.
Salah has been in exceptional form throughout the 2024/25 season, scoring 16 goals and providing 11 assists to help Arne Slot’s Liverpool establish a seven-point lead at the top of the table and leading the top scorer charts. His performances haven’t been limited to the league by any means, as he’s also scored three goals and registered four assists in cup competitions.
While other standout players like Virgil van Dijk, Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer, and Bukayo Saka are also performing at high levels and are in the conversation for the prestigious PFA Player of the Year award, Ferdinand believes Salah stands out.
Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast on who he thinks are the big three so far this season, the former Manchester United and England defender said, “I’d go [for] Salah. I think Palmer and Saka are close seconds.”
Rio’s former England and Manchester United teammate, Owen Hargreaves, who appeared alongside Ferdinand on the podcast, echoed the sentiment, “I’m going to say Mo Salah and I’ll say Cole Palmer a close second, I think to be the best player, you’ve got to be in the top team, within reason.”
“I’m basing it on the fact that Liverpool are top of the league and his output is better than anyone’s goals and assists. I’d say Cole Palmer is just behind.” said Hargreaves.
The midfielder added, “[Moises] Caicedo could be the most improved player, but if we’re going best player right now… it’s the team that is first and Salah has got the best numbers. It’s not even a debate.”
With Salah leading the charge and continuing to deliver remarkable performances, Liverpool look firmly positioned to maintain their dominance in the league and in Europe as the season progresses.
