The Egyptian Football Association has officially terminated the contract of the Egyptian youth team coach Rogerio Micale.
The decision comes after financial constraints prompted the EFA to propose a reduction in Micale’s salary. While the Brazilian agreed to a $15,000 monthly pay cut, the federation decided the reduction was insufficient after proposing it, and opted to enforce the penalty clause in his contract.
In an official statement, the EFA confirmed that Rogerio Micale, who took charge in September 2024, will receive severance pay equivalent to three months of his $117,500 monthly salary. The payment will be made in six monthly installments starting in February.
Rogerio Micale addressed the situation, saying: “Today, the EFA officially notified me of its decision to terminate my contract, which was set to expire in 2028, ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics. I depart with gratitude for the players, staff, and Egyptian people, and hope to encounter them again in the future.”
During his tenure, the 55-year-old coach led Egypt to a fourth-place finish at the Paris 2024 Olympics and successfully guided the youth team to qualify for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, scheduled for April 2025.
The EFA has not yet named Micale’s successor, but an announcement is expected following the next board meeting.
In a broader financial review, the federation has also cancelled any financial decisions and appointments made in November and December under the previous administration, as part of efforts to stabilize its financial position.
