Mohamed Salah broke Premier League legend Wayne Rooney’s record in a dramatic 3-3 draw with Newcastle, scoring twice and assisting once.
Both teams traded leads throughout the match before sharing points at the final whistle. Newcastle struck first in the 35th minute through Alexander Isak. Liverpool responded early in the second half when Salah set up Curtis Jones with an assist for the equalizer.
Newcastle reclaimed the lead in the 62nd minute with a goal from Anthony Gordon, but Salah leveled the game again just six minutes later. He scored again, putting Liverpool ahead in the 83rd minute with his second goal of the game. However, Fabian Schar found the net in stoppage time, securing a point for The Magpies.
Despite not getting the win, Salah stood out once again as he surpassed former Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney’s long-standing record of 36 Premier League matches with both a goal and an assist, setting a new mark at 37. He also scored his 30th Premier League brace, becoming only the eighth player in Premier League history to achieve this milestone.
Salah currently sits atop the Premier League top scorers list with 13 goals, passing Erling Haaland’s 12. He is also second place in most league assists so far, recording 8 assists, placing him behind Bukayo Saka’s 10. The Egyptian is now tallying 21 goal contributions in the league, the most of any player across Europe’s top five leagues.
Liverpool remain top of the Premier League with 35 points, while Chelsea and Arsenal trail behind in second and third place.
