Mohamed Salah finished fourth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or after an outstanding season with Liverpool, achieving his highest standing to date.
The award this year was decided solely by journalists, excluding votes from coaches and players. Criteria include individual performances, collective team achievements, and fair play.
Salah scored 34 goals and provided 23 assists across all competitions last season, winning the Premier League, PFA, and FWA Player of the Year awards. Despite his form, PSG star Ousmane Dembele took home the Ballon d’Or after leading his side to the Ligue 1 and Champions League titles with 35 goals and 16 assists.
However, this was Salah’s sixth Ballon d’Or nomination and his best finish to date. The forward previously placed fifth in 2019 and 2022.
It was also a night of disappointment for Liverpool coach Arne Slot, who lost out to Luis Enrique for the Johan Cruyff Award, while Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker was beaten to the Lev Yashin Trophy by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Liverpool’s season, however, was one to remember, with Slot guiding the club to a 20th league title in his debut year, a campaign where Salah played a central role.
