Sam Morsy has expressed doubts over the continuity of his role with the Egyptian national team under current coach, Hossam Hassan.
Speaking to the press ahead of Ipswich Town’s clash with Manchester United, Sam Morsy revealed that communication with Hossam Hassan has been nonexistent, assuming that this clearly means that the coach does not see him as part of his plans.
The 33-year old midfielder’s last appearance for the Pharaohs was in September 2023, where he was subbed in at stoppage time by former manager Rui Vittoria. Since then, Sam Morsy has yet to add to his nine international caps.
While he hasn’t ruled out a future return, Sam Morsy admitted, “Probably not under the current manager. He hasn’t contacted me and probably made it clear that he doesn’t see me in his plans, but you never know in football.”
The highlight of the Ipswich captain’s international career was representing Egypt at the 2018 World Cup, where he made a single appearance against Uruguay. Ironically, Hossam Hassan, now the Pharaohs’ head coach, was a starter during Egypt’s World Cup campaign in 1990.
