South African National Team manager Hugo Broos has urged forward Percy Tau to leave Al Ahly to reclaim his spot in the national team.
Tau was excluded from South Africa’s squad yet once again as the Bafana Bafana set to face Uganda and South Sudan in next week’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The 30-year-old has been struggling for playing time with the Reds recently, having lost his place in Marcel Koller’s starting XI, playing just 11 minutes of league action this season.
In his press conference to announce the squad, Broos said: “You know Percy Tau [doesn’t] play anymore. For the moment, he is always on the bench.
So, I said already two months ago the environment for him in Al Ahly is not positive, they wanted to sell him, then he wasn’t sold. And then you have the critics on social media from South Africa who were not happy with his performances.
“I hope, really hope, that he can change clubs, that he can be in a more positive environment, that he can make the performances again that we can expect from him. And then he will be again a very important player for Bafana Bafana.”
Percy Tau’s contract with Al Ahly is set to expire by the end of the current season and it’s expected the Reds won’t try to pursue the player to extend his deal.
