Egypt Olympic national team winger Ahmed Sayed Zizo has revealed his sadness with the slow start in Paris, saying that the Dominican Republic team surprised them.
Egypt opened their 2024 Olympics football campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw with the Dominican Republic to sit second behind group leaders Spain.
Zizo, one of two overage players alongside Mohamed Elneny, didn’t have the best of games against the Central American country, missing a valuable chance to give Egypt the lead just after the break.
Speaking on the game, Zizo said:”We did not want this result and we were hoping to win.
“We wanted to believe that we wanted to win and this is the only point that we lacked today.
“All the teams at the Olympics are tough and we know that, and the Dominican Republic surprised us today.
“We expected them to be that strong because we watched their games. We still have two games left and the journey is still long.”
Egypt plays Uzbekistan on Saturday before finishing their group by playing Spain the following Tuesday.
In the same group news, Spain beat Uzbekistan 2-1 to top the group after the first game.
