Three Egyptians make Football Olympics Team of the Tournament

Three Egyptian players have made The Football Olympics Team of the Tournament despite the heavy defeat to Morocco.

The Pharaohs finished fourth in the Paris 2024 Football Olympics after suffering a heavy 6-0 defeat to North African rivals Morocco.

Before that, Egypt, led by Brazilian coach Rogério Micale, topped their group by beating Uzbekistan and eventual winners Spain, before a penalty shootout win over Paraguay sent them to the semi-finals.

A heroic performance against France in the semi-finals saw Egypt just a few minutes away from reaching the final, before eventually losing to the hosts in extra time 3-1.

For these performances, three Egyptians were included in Sofascore’s Team of the Tournament, namely goalkeeper Hamza Alaa, Omar Fayed, and the team’s top scorer Ibrahim Adel.

Adel scored three goals, twice against gold medalists Spain, and a late equaliser against Paraguay that saw Egypt take the game to penalties and reach the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Egypt hadn’t conceded a single goal while Fenerbahce’s Omar Fayed was on the pitch until France’s later equaliser in the semi-finals.

Following Fayed’s red card against the French team, the Egyptians ended up conceding eight goals, two to France, and six to Morocco.

Finally, Al Ahly’s Hamza Alaa played a pivotal role in leading Egypt to fourth place, keeping two clean sheets, saving a penalty against Paraguay, and making an incredible number of saves against France.
