Egypt’s Mahmoud Trezeguet has made a shocking admission following his side’s comprehensive win over Botswana on Tuesday.

The winger bagged a brace for Egypt in the opening 45 minutes to ensure his side headed into the break with a two-goal advantage.

A second-half strike from Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and a late goal by Pyramids winger Mostafa Fathi sealed a dominant victory for Egypt to go top of their group in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Speaking after the game, Trezeguet revealed that he made the trip to Botswana with an injured hand without informing head coach Hossam Hassan.

“I joined the Egyptian national team camp with an injury to my hand and I was wearing a long brace so that Hossam Hassan would not notice the injury and keep me out of the lineup,” Trezeguet told ONTime Sports.

“I have been playing for Egypt for the past 11 years and being among the top 10 goalscorers in the history of the country is a remarkable achievement which I am very proud of.

“Every game I play for feels the same as my first one. I try to give my all and I am certainly not afraid of injury,” he added.
