Trezeguet's Al Rayyan targets Hervé Renard as new manager

Qatari club Al Rayyan SC is closing in on a deal to appoint 55-year-old French manager Hervé Renard as their next head coach.

Following two recent losses in the AFC Champions League against Al Hilal and in the Qatari League against Al Wakrah, current manager Poya Asbaghi finds himself on the hot seat.

According to Qatari newspaper Al Raya, Al Rayyan is accelerating talks to secure Renard’s services, intensifying negotiations to finalize the deal as quickly as possible.

The French manager is currently a free agent after leaving the French women’s national team following the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Renard previously managed the Saudi Arabian national team during the 2022 World Cup, where they notably defeated the world champions, Argentina.

Throughout his career, Renard has won two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championships, triumphing with Zambia in 2012 and with Ivory Coast in 2015.

Al Rayyan has had a challenging start to their season, earning just six points from five league games and suffering a loss in their only AFC Champions League match. If a deal is finalized, Hervé Renard will become Trezeguet’s next manager in Qatar.
