Entering the match, both sides had already been eliminated following losses to Juventus and Manchester City. Wydad struck early, with Cassius Mailula rifling a powerful shot into the top corner in the fifth minute.

They came close to doubling their lead shortly after, but Oussama Zemraoui’s sliding effort missed the far post.

Al Ain began to settle midway through the half and thought they had equalized through Kodjo Laba, only for his goal to be ruled out for offside. Moments later, they found their breakthrough. After Adis Jasic was brought down by Ayoub Boucheta inside the box, Laba made no mistake from the spot, blasting his penalty home to level the score before halftime.

The second half saw Al Ain continue to push forward, and they were eventually rewarded when Laba, who would go on to be named Man of the Match, scored the winner to seal all three points.

Egyptian defender Ramy Rabia featured for Al Ain for the third consecutive match, playing the full 90 minutes.

With the result, Al Ain exited the tournament with a morale-boosting win and a $2 million reward, while Wydad bowed out without a single point, earning only the base participation fee of $9.5 million.
