Amr Nasser becomes the first player from domestic football, and only the second Egyptian ever to be nominated for a FIFA Puskas Award.
Amr Nasser makes history by becoming the first player to earn a FIFA Puskás Award nomination for a goal scored in an Egyptian domestic competition. The Pharco striker’s bicycle kick against Al Ahly during the Capital Cup clash has been included on the shortlist for the accolade.
The goal, which came in a 2-0 victory for Pharco and has now earned global recognition, joining strikes from players in Brazil, Italy, Spain, South Africa, and beyond.
Annually, the FIFA Puskas Award honors the most aesthetically outstanding goal scored globally within the eligible calendar period. This year covers 11 August 2024 to 2 August 2025.
Per FIFA’s announcement, voting is now open. The final winner will be determined by a 50/50 split between global fan votes and a panel of FIFA Legends.
Following last week’s announcement, Amr Nasser stands alongside Mohamed Salah, who is shortlisted for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award this year.
Notably, Salah remains the only Egyptian to have previously won the FIFA Puskas Award. The Liverpool forward claimed the award in 2018 for his solo goal against Everton in the Premier League.
