The Egyptian U-23 national team have edged Uzbekistan 1-0 on Saturday to claim their first victory in the 2024 Olympics.
Egypt had a rough start in the tournament after playing out a disappointing goalless draw with the Dominican Republic last week.
However, Rogerio Micale’s side showed a different side when they faced Uzbekistan in a must-win game in Group C for the Pharaohs.
A bright start to the game saw Egypt dominate the opening stages and ultimately find the breakthrough after 10 minutes following a defensive scramble,

Osama Faisal’s shot initially hit the woodwork before the Uzbekistan defender tried to clear the ball but his clearance took a touch off Ahmed Nabil Kouka into the back of the net.
Despite the early lead, Egypt had long spells of sustained pressure as they allowed the opposition to create multiple chances to equalise before half-time.
Former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny came close to finding Egypt’s second of the evening when his shot forced a good save from Abduvohid Nematov.
The win will give Egypt a needed morale boost ahead of their meeting with group leaders Spain on Tuesday, July 30th.
