Smouha kicked off the new Egyptian Premier League season with a 3-1 victory over fellow Alexandrian side Haras El Hodood SC.
The season opener saw goals from Smouha’s Mahmoud Saber, Abdelkabir El Wadi, and Hossam Hassan. Haras El Hodood’s lone goal came from Mohamed Ashraf “Rouka,” who converted a penalty.
Three of the four goals were netted by new transfers. Abdelkabir El Wadi, who rejoined Smouha as a free agent after a season with Modern Sport, made an immediate impact alongside Mahmoud Saber who is on loan from Pyramids, added to the score sheet. For Haras El Hodood, Mohamed Ashraf “Rouka,” recently transferred from Zamalek, marked his debut with a goal.
Smouha is set to face Zamalek in the upcoming game week, while Haras El Hodood will prepare for another Alexandria derby, this time against Ittihad Alexandria.
This season introduces a new league format: each team will play every other team once. The top nine teams will advance to compete for the league title, while the bottom nine will battle to avoid relegation, with only two teams dropping from the Egyptian Premier League.
