Al Ahly have earned a late 1-0 victory over newly-promoted ZED FC in the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday.

The Red Devils were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw against ENPPI to drop points for the second consecutive league game after a 4-3 defeat to NBE FC last month.

However, the champions managed to get the job done on Thursday night with winter-signing Wessam Abou Ali finding a late winner.

The first half saw Al Ahly create multiple chances to find the early breakthrough only to be denied by goalkeeping heroics from ZED’s Aly Lotfi.

In the 75th minute, Ahmed Abdelkader thought he gave Al Ahly the lead from a thumping strike but the goal was ruled out for offside by VAR following a brief review.

Despite their disappointment, the visitors intensified the pressure in search of a victory to climb up the league table and they did just that with a minute remaining to the full-time whistle.

Anthony Modeste combined with Wessam Abou Ali at the edge of the box before the latter unleashed a powerful shot beyond Aly Lotfi to earn the win and all three points.

Al Ahly’s upcoming league game will be against arch-rivals Zamalek in the Cairo derby next Monday, April 15th.
