Zamalek spokesperson Ahmed Salem voiced concerns over the choice of Libyan referee Mutaz Ibrahim for the CAF Super Cup match against Al Ahly.
The highly anticipated showdown between the Cairo giants will take place in Riyadh, with the CAF Super Cup title on the line.
The match is set for Friday, September 27, 2024, at 9 PM CET.
In an interview with Al Shams TV, Salem stated: “The issue of focusing on the referee’s identity before the match has to be addressed.
“There has already been controversy circulating on social media regarding referee Moataz Ibrahim, and we have concerns about him for reasons that are well known.”
Salem concluded by expressing Zamalek’s hope for fairness in the match, saying: “We hope that CAF eases our concerns, and all we are asking for is neutrality between the two teams.”
Mutaz Ibrahim is a 34-year-old Libyan referee, who most notably took charge of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League final which Al Ahly won over Wydad Casablanca.
