Former Zamalek president Mamdouh Abbas confirmed that Tony Pulis has arrived in Egypt for a possible role as the club’s sporting director.

The visit was announced by Mamdouh Abbas and club legend Ahmed Hossam “Mido,” who’s a member of the The White Knight’s planning committee. Tony Pulis, who boasts a long managerial career in English football with clubs such as Stoke City, Crystal Palace, and West Bromwich Albion, toured the club’s facilities and is expected to evaluate the club’s infrastructure and long-term development potential.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Abbas praised Tony Pulis as “one of the most prominent coaches in the history of the Premier League” and revealed plans to personally meet with the 66-year-old during his stay. He added that the purpose of the visit is to provide the Englishman with a clear view of the club’s sporting challenges and assess how international standards can be applied to elevate the team’s performance.

Mamdouh Abbas also thanked Mido for facilitating the visit and described him as instrumental in leading discussions around Pulis’s role at the club. Mido is reportedly preparing to submit an official proposal to Zamalek’s board of directors to formally appoint Pulis as sporting director in the coming days.

The move comes at a crucial time for Zamalek, who are seeking a reset following internal turbulence and inconsistent performances. Club officials hope Pulis can help overhaul the sporting structure, improve recruitment, and strengthen coordination across all levels of the football department.

As part of his anticipated role, Pulis would reportedly oversee first-team operations, training methodologies, and most critically, youth development, a department Zamalek views as key to long-term sustainability.
