Zamalek has officially submitted an offer to sign Swedish forward Carlos Strandberg, as reported by Turkish sports outlet Sports Digital.
The White Knights have identified Strandberg as their latest target in their ongoing efforts in the transfer market to bolster their attacking lineup for the new season.
According to Turkish reports, Strandberg, 28, has also been linked with Al Ahly, making Zamalek the second Egyptian club interested in the striker.
Hatayspor’s recent acquisition of Vincent Aboubakar from Beşiktaş has cast uncertainty over Strandberg’s future at the club, opening the door for his departure.
Strandberg’s agent previously confirmed, that there has been some pressure on the player to look for another club, following Aboubakar’s arrival.
The Swede has been with Hatayspor since the start of last season, scoring 13 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions. This season, he’s continued his strong form with two goals in four matches, including a brace against Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
The forward has played in Sweden, Russia, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, winning the league with Malmö FF and the Qatar Cup with Al Sailiya.
Internationally, he excelled at youth level for Sweden, becoming the joint top scorer with 13 goals. He’s also eligible for Mozambique through his heritage.
Currently, Zamalek have five foreign players in their squad: Seifeddine Jaziri, Hamza Mathlouthi, Samson Akinyoola, Konrad Michalak, and Mahmoud Bentayg.
To accommodate another foreign signing like Strandberg, the club would need to release one of their current international players.
The Cairo Giants already secured the signings of Konrad Michalak, Mahmoud Bentayg, Omar Faraj, Mohamed Hamdi, and Sidy Ndiaye in the current transfer window, as they aim to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
