The Egyptian Football Association has officially informed Zamalek that Nabil Emad “Dunga” is ineligible to feature in the upcoming Super Cup.
In an official statement, the EFA clarified that Dunga remains suspended due to sanctions issued in the aftermath of last season’s Super Cup controversy, effectively ruling him out of the squad for the match in the UAE.
Zamalek, however, have publicly maintained that the player’s status is valid. The club had already completed the visa procedures for Dunga’s travel with the squad to the UAE and indicated he would be available for selection.
The White Knights’ director of football Abdel Nasser Mohamed pushed back on the timing and legitimacy of the EFA’s decision.
We followed the proper protocol, as we do before any competition. We sent a formal inquiry to the EFA in due time regarding Dunga’s eligibility.
He also went on to question how the suspension notice was handled internally. Implying procedural irregularities within the federation.
Is it the responsibility of EFA board members to sit on unverified letters that haven’t been processed or assigned official reference numbers by the relevant committees? There are legal timelines and clear structures in place. Was that followed? Would the former executive director of the EFA ignore protocol or his conscience? I highly doubt it.
Adding fuel to the fire, the director of football hinted at internal motives behind the suspension.
We’re well aware of who stands to benefit from stirring all this up. But Dunga will be part of the travelling squad to the UAE.
The Zamalek official ended his statement by stressing that the club’s focus remains intact ahead of their upcoming league fixture, insisting the off-pitch noise won’t disrupt the team’s preparations.
Our full focus is on the next match. None of this will shake our concentration.
