Ibrahim Adel scored both goals while Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion scored a late consolation goal for the Spanish side.
Zizo, who assisted Adel’s opening goal, spoke after the match saying: “Whoever concentrates on winning a medal won’t win one. We are taking our journey step by step and we are only focusing on the quarter-final right now.
“After the first game, everyone doubted our qualities but we knew that the tournament would not be easy. This led us to concentrate more and we proved to the world that we can do the impossible.”
On the opening goal, Zizo explained: “I was going to shoot but I saw Ibrahim Adel in a better position so I decided to lay the ball to him. Thankfully, Ibrahim finished the job.
“From the start of the tournament, we agreed on changing the situation and achieving the Egyptian people’s dream by doing something special.”
The Pharaohs will now face Paraguay in the quarter-finals on Friday 2 August 2024 at 8 PM CET at Stade de Marseille.
