Spain have withdrawn Martín Zubimendi from the squad before the friendly against Egypt after the midfielder reported pain in his right knee.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed that Zubimendi left camp to avoid any risk and protect the player from injury. The federation added that Arsenal’s medical staff had been informed of the process.

The midfielder had featured briefly in Spain’s 3-0 win over Serbia, coming on for the final 13 minutes. Zubimendi will now miss Spain’s final March friendly at RCDE Stadium in Barcelona.

Spain trained on Monday before traveling to Barcelona, with Zubimendi the only absentee from the session. Luis de la Fuente’s side will now face Egypt without one of their regular midfield options.

The match against Egypt is scheduled for 31 March at 9 PM local time.
