Mostafa Mohamed will be sidelined due to fatigue in his hamstring, with the coaching staff deciding to rest him to prevent a serious injury.
Egypt will face Mauritania in Nouakchott on Tuesday in hopes of officially securing their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mostafa Mohamed will be the second big name announced to be rested for the Mauritania trip, following Mohamed Salah.
The FC Nantes striker was brought on in the last 30 minutes of the first leg, helping the Pharaohs defeat Mauritania 2-0 at the Cairo International Stadium.
Trezeguet and Salah each scored, with Trezeguet’s goal marking his 21st for Egypt, tying him with Gamal Abdel-Hamid as the ninth all-time top scorer for the national team.
With their recent victory, Egypt now sits top of the group with nine points, while Mauritania remains at the bottom with three points, tied with Cape Verde and Botswana.
The Pharaohs need just one more point to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
