Al Ahly have officially confirmed that they will face Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 19.
The match will conclude Al Ahly’s pre-season camp in Spain and form part of their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign under Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta.
The fixture is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, according to the official announcement. The Cairo giants would reportedly receive $500,000 and a share of matchday and commercial revenue.
The Joan Gamper Trophy takes its name from Barcelona’s founder and former president. The Catalan club first staged the competition in 1966 and use it to present their squad to supporters before the new season.
Al Ahly will feature in its 61st edition. Barcelona won last year’s trophy by beating Como 5-0, with Fermín Lopez and Lamine Yamal scoring twice each, while Raphinha added the fifth.
The fixture will provide Hansi Flick’s side with their final major test before starting their LaLiga campaign away to Elche on August 23. Barcelona will then host Athletic Club four days later.
The clubs have also developed a working relationship through Hamza Abdelkarim’s transfer. The 18-year-old initially joined Barcelona on loan from Al Ahly in February. He scored six goals in 11 appearances for their U19 side before the Spanish champions activated their purchase option.
Al Ahly have previously faced Barcelona three times, losing each meeting.
El Blaugrana won their first encounter 6-1 at Mokhtar El Tetsh Stadium in April 1961.
The Spanish side then earned a 4-0 victory during Al Ahly’s centenary celebrations at Cairo International Stadium in 2007. They won 4-1 when the teams met again in the Wembley Cup two years later, with Hani El-Egeizy scoring for the Red Devils.
The August fixture will therefore become the clubs’ fourth meeting and Al Ahly’s first appearance against Barcelona at Camp Nou.
