Egyptian giants Zamalek have drawn compatriots Modern Future in the quarter-finals of the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup.
The draw was held on 12 March 2024 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, with two Egyptian teams making the knockout stages.
Zamalek finished top of group B unbeaten with 16 points from six games ahead of Libya’s Abu Salim, Angola’s Sagrada Esperança, and Guinea’s Académie SOAR.
Meanwhile, Modern Future came second in group A with 11 points behind USM Alger and ahead of both Libya’s Al Hilal and SuperSport United of South Africa.
However, the draw wasn’t kind to either side as it plotted them both against each other in the quarter-finals for only one Egyptian team to continue the tournament from the semi-finals.
The first leg will be held at Al Salam Stadium, home of Modern Future, on March 31, before both teams face again on April 7 at the Cairo International Stadium.
The winner will face either Stade Malien or Ghana’s Dreams FC in the semi-finals in the latter weeks of April.
Meanwhile, Libya’s Abu Salim drew two-time winners RS Berkane while Nigerian side Rivers United will face USM Alger in the other quarter-final tie.
