Confederation Cup final hero Ahmed Hamdi tears ACL

Zamalek’s latest hero Ahmed Hamdi has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Hamdi joined Zamalek in the latest January transfer window on a free transfer after his contract with MLS club CF Montréal was terminated.

Since then, the midfielder has been playing regularly for the Whites, making 12 appearances in which he scored twice and playing a crucial role in guiding the club to the CAF Confederation Cup glory.

Hamdi scored the winning goal at the Cairo International Stadium to help Zamalek beat RS Berkane and lift the title after drawing 2-2 on aggregate.

However, Hamdi had to be subbed off just before half-time with the scans confirming an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his knee.

After coordinating and arranging all the necessary procedures, Zamalek doctor Mohamed Osama indicated that the player will undergo ACL surgery abroad soon.
